2016 has been a good year for me with books. I read 53 books - something of a record for me - and I pushed myself out of my reading comfort zone. I read more nonfiction, more on my iPad, and more fiction actually written for adults (and not teenagers) than ever before. Of course, I read quite a bit of YA lit as well, and found quite a few new favorites!
If you want to see all of my 2016 reads, check out my Reading Challenge on Goodreads (and let's be friends, while you're at it!), but for now, here are my favorites of the year.

A Book to Make You See the World (and Yourself) Differently: The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown was like an "Aha!" on every page. I read it quickly but want to reread it again and again to really understand everything she said and how I can apply it.
The Perfect Summer Read: Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch is the story of a girl who goes to Italy to find her long-lost father after her mother's death. It's full of romance, feels, and my favorite: gelato! An Oh-So-Relatable Memoir: We Should Hang Out Sometime by Josh Sundquist is technically a memoir, but it's more like listening to your best friend tell you all the embarrassing, funny things that happened to them since you last saw them. In his book, Sundquist recounts his efforts to figure out why none of his relationships worked out. It is awkward and real and hilarious. Laugh Out Loud Funny: Ungifted by Gordon Korman is about an average middle school boy who, instead of getting in trouble after pulling a prank, accidentally gets sent to a school for gifted children. It is the perfect look into middle school humor, awkwardness, and all-around goodness. For When You Need Some Encouragement: We're With You is written by the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is a collection of quotes and parts of talks on a variety of subjects. The overall feel, though, is of encouragement and hope for the future. |
In 2017, I am excited to join Modern Mrs. Darcy's Reading Challenge. She has two challenges - one for fun and one for growth - each with 12 categories. I've decided that I want to read books in all 24 categories, and I'm going to share my reading along the way. I'll tell you all about what I'm reading and what I think, and I hope you'll tell me what you're reading! Here's to a 2017 full of books!
