It is Kindness Week at my school this week. At my school, that means that students are given kindness "challenge" - the invitation to do kind acts throughout the school and get to know each other. My students have been passing out and completing challenges, and I'm excited to see this attitude of kindness increase around the school. Today I saw a sign with this quote on it: "Be kind to yourself so you can be happy enough to be kind to the world" (Misha Collins). I think maybe kindness to yourself may be some of the hardest kindness out there. Why is that? Why do we beat ourselves up so much? If I said to others the kinds of things I say to myself, I wouldn't have any friends! So I love this idea that being kind to yourself allows you to be kinder to the world. That gives me motivation to be kinder to myself. It's a hard road, but so incredibly worth it. |
