It's officially the Christmas season! I love this time of year, mostly because I get to see things like this:
I love that Christmas is a time when people are looking for ways to serve and help others. This is a time when we love more, I think, than at any other time of the year. We are reminded of the birth of Christ, and we try to be a little more like him. Here's what President Thomas S. Monson, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, had to say about this Christmas spirit:
"Born in a stable, cradled in a manger, He came forth from heaven to live on earth as mortal man and to establish the kingdom of God. During His earthly ministry, He taught men the higher law. His glorious gospel reshaped the thinking of the world. He blessed the sick. He caused the lame to walk, the blind to see, the deaf to hear. He even raised the dead to life. To us He has said, 'Come, follow me.'
"As we seek Christ, as we find Him, as we follow Him, we shall have the Christmas spirit, not for one fleeting day each year, but as a companion always. We shall learn to forget ourselves. We shall turn our thoughts to the greater benefit of others."
So this year, as I prepare for Christmas, I want to do more to show that I am following the Savior by serving others every day. That's 25 days of service, starting December 1 and going through Christmas Day. I will be sharing some of my service with you, but some of it will be secret - because that's the best kind of service! I hope you'll join me in finding ways to make the world a better place this month so that we can all draw closer to our Savior as we prepare to celebrate His birth. These don't have to be big acts of service - just intentional, purposeful acts of service that you see a need for in your sphere of influence.
If you want to share your service on social media, please do! I want to share, support, and connect with you - and I hope we can start a chain reaction of service. When I post about my service, I will use #25daysofservice, and I hope you will too!
